PROJECT 1B
Spatial Translations
This project is a continuation of the Project 1A. Based on the spatial typology chosen on the previous project- Linear, students are required to design one spatial translation scheme themed 'Journey of the five senses' and considering it based on the given event , which is Covid-19, and visualize it in an architectural viewpoint. Students are then required to create a narrative by extracting the essence from the given event and translate it into a semi-open architecture.
Divergence

The architecture depicts the irony between the ignorant individuals and frontliners during Covid 19 pandemic, located at a forest cliff, reflecting the unstable situation. The ignorant individuals' actions for instance refusing social distancing and quarantine have led to the boost of frontliner's sufferings, Thus, the ignorance path entwines around the front liners' path, creating a sinuous path, causing the frontliners; path to become chaotic, portrayed by the columns supporting the ignorant's path blocking the frontliners' path.
In contrast, the frontliners' path is straight and smooth, if it;s not for the ignorants, illustrating their straightfowards job scopes, but they will also experience loss and despair depicting the deaths, represented by the walls caving in creating a pathway only for one individual to pass through, hence, the users will then experience loss of companion and loneliness. However, there is always hope in the dark, lives that are saved are represented by the light, shining through the openings of black granite wall near the end of the structure.
At the end of the structure views the mountains and horizon far away from the platform, portraying the long journey we still have to walk until the end of the pandemic. The two different paths describes the two different perspectives which have crossed their paths in this pandemic, which they will have to work together in order to face the pandemic efficiently, illustrated by the combination of the two paths at the end of divergence.

Reflection
Through this proejct, I have explored different ways of creating tectonic expressions of linear spatial typology which impact on the uses and experiential conditions of space. I have also generated design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.
