Precedent Studies
In this project, students are required to identify and analyse spatial order and spatial poetics through precedent studies. The chosen precedent study is Steinleset Memorial by Peter Zumthor which is located in Vardø, Norway. Steilneset Memorial is a tribute to witch hunt which happened in the early 17th centruy. It is constructed with a suspended silk cocoon which is supported by a pine scaffolding.
A. Spatial Typology

The spatial typology applied is in linear movement - circulation spine. As the windows and plaques are designed at the sides of the building, thus, when the users walk along the linear form, they will turn right or left to view the plaques.

B. Spatial Poetics
​
The use of contrast, repetition, scale and proportion can be observed in the memorial. The plan-to-section relationship states that the volume of space remains constant throughout the memorial.Spatial poetics are achieved through the ascending ramp, limitation of light, long and narrow path and materiality.

Reflection
From this project, I am able to understand the characteristics and features of different spatial typologies and the application of the typologies into design in a poetic manner to create user experience according to the narrative. This case study has inspired me to further explore the possibilities of using different elements and spatial typologies in further design project
