PROJECT  2A

'Genius Loci’ -  Site Analysis & Concept Development

In this project, students are required to conduct historical research on the place- Valley of Hope Sungai Buloh. Then, based on the given data and information, student are to conduct site analysis of the physical context within identified macro and micro sites.

Site Analysis

Individually, students are required to produce our own personal interpretation of the macro site in the form of sketches. After doing research about the history, culture and features on site, I have chosen to interpret the experience of the patients and medical staffs which is about the stigma that surrounds around disease, especially incurable diseases (e.g. leprosy and covid-19). I felt heartbroken about the way part of the society treats the patients and medical staffs, although they are innocent and a normal human being as well.

Personal Interpretation

After creating a narrative and analyzing the site conditions, I then developed the concept in terms of architectural form which responds to the issues discovered. The design concept is for an interpretive center that should take into consideration of the micro site surroundings, respond to the adjacent tangible elements, which then be presented in the form of drawings.

Site Response & Concept Development

Reflection

In this project, I have learned and explored ways to generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures. I have also documented, interpreted and analyzed the physical conditions of the site and 'genius loci' of the place by conducting research, and generated design based on the character and conditions of the site context with my tutors guide and advice.
