Architectural Design Project
1. Pre-Design Studies & Analysis
Students in groups are to investigate, study and analyze the site to understand valuable components before designing. The study will enable students to gain familiarity with the people, place, and project. To be immersed in it by 'sensing the city' allows each to look into the current conditions of the site, what is lacking and missing. Hence, understanding the objectives of the project and eventually defining the most impactful function or functions of the 'Urban Room' through its appropriate programmes and intentions.
2. Design Strategies and Exploration
This project focuses on exploration on design position, strategies, concept & ideas, site and spatial organization- User experience/experiential qualities, form & massing design, and theme & concept.
3. Final Interim
The design is further developed finalized. Final interim checking is carried out prior to the final presentation review for students to look and develop the scheme into a more resolved design.
4. Final Presentation Review
The Project emphasizes on ‘Sensing the City’: Designing an Urban Room, creating positive spaces for people in the city. The design should demonstrate architectural interventions, which are drawn from the needs of the people, place, and is timely and relevant.
5. Final Design Report
We are required to submit a final design report as full documentation of the 15-week design ‘journey’ in the final studio. The documentation will cover the rigorous design processes, from preliminary studies, exploration, and to the final design.
